Kalifa

BIRTH & POSTPARTUM DOULA

Kalifa Doucet offers a calm, intuitive, and deeply grounding presence as a birth and postpartum doula. Her work is rooted in connection—taking the time to truly understand each client’s needs, rhythms, and desires so they can move through pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood feeling supported, informed, and held.

She approaches this transition as more than just a moment in time, but as a profound transformation. With a steady and reassuring presence, Kalifa helps her clients find clarity within the noise, guiding them back to their own intuition. She gently reminds them that they already carry the wisdom within their bodies—and supports them in trusting it.

Kalifa’s path into this work has been shaped by a deep commitment to women’s health, self-education, and community care. Through her experiences, she has witnessed both the beauty and the gaps within maternal support systems, which have strengthened her dedication to creating spaces where all people feel seen, respected, and empowered in their choices.

She has supported families as a volunteer midwife assistant at the Brooklyn Birthing Center and continues to expand her global perspective through annual volunteer work at Bumi Sehat Birthing Center in Bali. Her time living in Melbourne, Australia, further deepened her practice, where she volunteered with Birth for Humankind, supporting women navigating complex life circumstances.

Kalifa’s care extends beyond emotional and physical support—she weaves in nourishment, grounding practices, and presence. Whether guiding breathwork, supporting labor, or preparing restorative meals, her approach honors the body’s natural intelligence and the importance of being gently cared for in the postpartum period.

Outside of her work, Kalifa finds joy in tending to her community garden in Brooklyn, creating nourishing plant-based meals, traveling to learn from global birth traditions, and living a low-waste, intentional lifestyle.

Now based in Brooklyn, New York, Kalifa continues to support families with warmth, depth, and quiet strength—holding space for one of life’s most meaningful transformations.

Testimonials

“We decided to hire Kalifa as our doula for our 2nd child because of her experience, warmth, and calm energy. We chose right - she was fantastic! She met with my husband and I twice before the birth, shared resources and advice as I tried to flip my breech baby, and was in frequent contact in the weeks leading up to birth. The hospital room felt like a spa - even hospital staff commented on it when they'd walk in the room. The seven hours of labor were actually really wonderful, even if they were physically painful.

Kalifa stayed with me so that my husband was able to go with the baby. If she hadn't been there, I would've been left alone after birth. I can't imagine how traumatic that would've been, and it just proved my intuition right that we needed a doula at birth even though I had planned on an epidural.

After birth, she came for a postnatal visit, complete with special postpartum tea mixtures that she had made for me. She did the dishes, helped with my breastfeeding latch, and listened as my husband and I processed our birth story with her.

I was SO grateful to have Kalifa be part of our birthing experience, and would recommend her to anyone.”

“From the moment we met Kalifa, my husband and I knew that we wanted her to be our doula. Her warm, calming presence and positive energy were exactly what we needed before the birth of our child. We felt that we had made a new friend.

Kalifa greatly enhanced my birthing experience. Our prenatal visits were very informative and encouraging. She went over my birth plan, laboring positions, offered massages, informed me about what foods to eat and even brought me some red raspberry leaf tea and date cookies :) She always asked the right questions and was genuinely interested in getting to know us, our hopes and fears. I feel that she cared about our family.

When I went into labor, Kalifa was there waiting for us at the birthing center, she stayed by my side every step of the way with her essential oils, relaxing music and massages, guiding me through my contractions. Her encouraging words helped me find the strength I needed to deliver my baby, I felt powerful and in control and was fortunate to have a beautiful water birth. My husband and I were grateful to have another set of hands to help us. She is a natural!

She visited us at home a few days after the birth of our daughter and we found it very valuable to have someone to reflect with on the labor and delivery.

I am grateful to have had Kalifa guide us through this journey, I only wish I had met her sooner!”

“Kalifa made an immediate impression upon us with the questions she chose to ask, and the manner in which she asked them - insightful, challenging, and with a genuine curiosity.  A highly capable doula and grounded and intelligent individual, she's been a pleasure to share this most meaningful experience with.”

“I had the privilege of working with Kalifa as my birth and postpartum doula in late 2020 and early 2021. From the moment we began working together during my pregnancy, her calm and grounding presence made me feel safe, supported, and deeply cared for.

During labour, Kalifa guided me with breathing techniques and positioning, holding space for me in a way that was both gentle and empowering. Her ability to bring steadiness and reassurance into such an intense experience was invaluable. In the postpartum period, her care extended far beyond the practical — she offered massage, body binding, sitz baths, newborn care guidance (including breastfeeding and swaddling), and cooked nourishing vegan meals that felt like medicine.

Kalifa’s intuition and attentiveness meant she often anticipated what I needed before I even asked. Her blend of knowledge, compassion, and warmth made all the difference in my transition to motherhood, particularly as I navigated the isolation of the COVID lockdowns.

Her communication was always clear, kind, and empathetic — she checked in regularly, offered guidance without judgment, and explained everything in a way that felt calm and empowering. I truly can’t think of anything she could improve upon.

Kalifa’s greatest strengths lie in her nurturing presence, deep knowledge, and ability to hold space with grace and sensitivity. She balances emotional care with practical support beautifully. I would work with her again without hesitation and wholeheartedly recommend her to any family seeking birth or postpartum support.

Kalifa was a vital part of my journey into motherhood — her presence made me feel less alone, more confident, and profoundly cared for.”
